We Solve Murders by Richard Osman

We Solve Murders by Richard Osman

Started: 16th November 2025

Finished: 21st November 2025

Paperback

Different cast of characters to The Thursday Murder Club, which took a bit of getting used to, but the same humorous style of writing by Richard Osman. I'm sure I'll read the next one when it's out.

Paperback - A Box Of Stories

I don't know anything about Scott Leeds, but it feels like he's someone with quite an eclectic taste in music, about which he's very knowledgeable, possibly to the point of snobbery, and he wanted to write a book about it.

Hardback - Library book

I thought this was going to be a werewolf theme, but I was completely wrong! There was some kind of bear-monster type of thing lurking in the woods but it was never really explained why it suddenly decided to show itself at the point where the story started. The female MC had been abducted as a young girl by the man who she now lived with, after he'd killed her mother. She'd forgotten all this, but eventually the memories began to return, and she knew she had to escape, both from him and the monster. I enjoyed it, but there were a few ambiguous points.

The Haar by David Sodergren

The Haar by David Sodergren

Started: 25/10/25

Finished: 1/11/25

Bizarre little book about a tiny coastal Scottish village which is gradually being bought out by developers. One lady, Muriel, who has lived there all her life (whose husband died at sea) is refusing to leave. As the haar rolls in, she finds a strange jelly-like blob on the beach and takes it back to her cottage and puts it in the bath. The blob takes on the form of her dead husband, but the only way it can survive is by consuming people, namely some undesirable characters employed by the developers to try and oust Muriel. Eventually the blob/husband offers her the chance to come with him, to transform into whatever he is and live forever in the sea with him, so that's what she does. Bit weird.
